Raise Awareness

Raise Awareness

Every minute in the United Kingdom, an incident of domestic violence is reported to the police.

In the time it takes you to read this article, there’s a probability that at least one incident will have taken place.

By the end of this week, two women will have been murdered by a current or ex- partner.

One in four women and one in six men are said to experience domestic violence, yet the statistics don’t show the whole picture. Because so much violence takes place on a psychological level and so many incidents aren’t reported at all, there is no way of knowing how many people currently live in fear in the UK today.

What is clear is that anyone can be victimised regardless of age, race, gender or sexuality; and that the consequences of domestic violence can be devastating.

How Can You Raise Awareness?

You could spend some time volunteering online, or with organizations that cater for male and female victims of abuse.

You can also raise awareness speaking in schools, seminars, running training programs, churches..

Domestic Violence organizations need a lot of funds to sustain the good work they do. If you’ve got the means, you can donate to well meaning organizations that take care of victims of abuse.

You can also create a sense of political awareness by legally participating activities that propose to stop crimes of domestic violence.

You can share helpful articles or create constructive campaigns through social media i.e. facebook, twitter, linked in…

You can also educate people on having positive attitudes to relationships.
